Yes you read that right.
Current NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was reportedly one of the names some owners were considering as a potential replacement for Roger Goodell.
According to ESPN’s Don Van Natta and Seth Wickersham, Silver was contacted by an unnamed owner in order to gauge his interest about running the NFL. Silver immediately turned down the offer.
This is not a surprise because Adam Silver had to immediately deal with the fallout of former LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was caught on tape making racist comments. Sterling was permanently banned by Silver from the league, earning high praise from fans and players alike.
After that incident, Silver is having a solid run as the NBA commissioner. The fact that some owners thought about reaching out to Silver regarding the position also signals that there isn’t any clear choice within the NFL on who will take over Goodell’s current role, Most NFL team owners were known to prefer a change in league leadership.
As far as the NBA is concerned, there shouldn’t be any issues as Adam Silver is here to stay.
